I came up with an idea to learn about artists by going through the alphabet and using internet searches. I am going to learn about a few artists each week and after a year, I will have gone through the alphabet twice - pretty neat if you think about it, right? I looked up two artists that I hadn't learned about before (no cheating and learning about artists I am already familiar with!) Here are the artists for this week:
Herb Aach - As I said before, I hadn't heard of Herb Aach, but I'm glad I decided to try out this idea, as I'm not sure how long it would have taken me to find him if I hadn't. Here is a link: Herb Aach of what I read - there are pictures, a biography and exhibition information in the link. I found the idea of making one's own paint and using unreleased, newly developed pigments pretty enticing. I also enjoyed looking at the work "Three Muses."
Anna Ancher - I'm trying very hard to not just seek out only abstract and modern/contemporary artists. I am glad I found the art of Anna Ancher, who was a Danish painter that painted mainly indoor, domestic scenes with women as a common subject. Here is the link: Anna Ancher. I love the light in her work.
Next week, I'm on to the "b' artists, but I've enjoyed learning about the "a's."
