Okay, not really ugly (well, I guess that's a matter of taste!) but here is my latest work from my class "Painting Inspired by Pop Culture." We started with abstract expressionism and I think this was really hard for me. I guess I like to plan too much. My painting started out like this:
Then it turned into this:
And that turned into this:
I am going to keep working on this - it's definitely nowhere near being done. I think what it really needs is some collage, some black and white and some serious texture.
My second piece is about half-done right now. We are working on stain paintings and I've always loved stain paintings - one of my favorite artists is Ronnie Landfield - a colorfield painter. I think that I'm faring better with this second painting because it is more contemplative and I can soften the paint and work slowly.
It is still wet in this picture and I apologize for glare from the water.
I'm looking forward to completing this piece. I am really bothered by the idea of ripping this piece out and having ugly ragged edges to deal with. I might wait until class to do that part!
